Clinical and Psg Predictors of the Natural History of Poor Sleep

چکیده
689 Natural History of Poor Sleep—Fernandez-Mendoza et al cently reported that poor sleep with objective short sleep duration is a risk factor for hypertension.6 Moreover, poor sleep is an independent risk factor for the development of chronic insomnia,7 which is associated with significant medical morbidity6,8-10 and mortality.11 Together, these findings suggest that poor sleep is a very prevalent condition whose medical effect has been underestimated. Very little is known about the incidence and persistence of insomnia symptoms or poor sleep, with 2 studies suggesting rates of approximately 30% and 46%, respectively.12,13 Even less is known about the risk factors involved in the natural history of poor sleep in the general population. Furthermore, no study to date has explored the role of polysomnographic (PSG) variables, such as sleep apnea or sleep duration, in the natural history of poor sleep. The 3 objectives of this study were to examine the risk factors involved in the incidence of poor sleep, the persistence of poor sleep, and the evolution of poor sleep into chronic insomnia in a large general random sample (the Penn State Cohort Study) using both subjective and objective (i.e., PSG) data and a longitudinal design.

Clinical predictors of central sleep apnea evoked by positive airway pressure titration
PURPOSE Treatment-emergent central sleep apnea (TECSA), also called complex apnea, occurs in 5%-15% of sleep apnea patients during positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy, but the clinical predictors are not well understood. The goal of this study was to explore possible predictors in a clinical sleep laboratory cohort, which may highlight those at risk during clinical management. METHODS We r...
متن کاملRepetitive Arm Movements During Sleep: A Polysomnographic Assessment
Sleep-related movement disorders should be differentiated from parasomnias, sleep-associated behavioral disorders, and epilepsy. Polysomnography (PSG) is the gold standard in evaluating such disorders. Periodic leg movement disorder during sleep (PLMS), hypnic jerks, bruxism, rhythmic movement disorder, restless legs syndrome, and nocturnal leg cramps have broadly been discu...

Introduction: Information on the sleepiness and sleep quality is limited for Asians. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of sleepiness and sleep quality among the adult population in Iran. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive and explorative design study in which 1100 participants randomly selected from the Kerman city population in South –East of Iran. Using two ques...
متن کاملPredictors of Obstructive Sleep Apnea on Polysomnography after a Technically Inadequate or Normal Home Sleep Test.
STUDY OBJECTIVES Home sleep testing (HST) is an accepted alternative to polysomnography (PSG) for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in high-risk populations. Clinical guidelines recommend PSG in cases where the HST is technically inadequate (TI) or fails to establish the diagnosis of OSA in patients with high pretest probability. This retrospective study evaluated predictors of OSA on PS...
